Not many retirement communities can boast over 50 years of quality service to their residents. In 1904, the site of Hoosier Village was established by the American Baptist denomination as an orphanage. In 1952, when welfare agencies adopted a policy of sending children to foster homes, that orphanage, “Indiana Baptist Homes,” became a residential community for adults over age 65. In 1956, our name was changed to Hoosier Village , to reflect a growing emphasis on independent living.

 

Hoosier Village is part of a family of continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) sponsored locally by BHI Retirement Communities. A faith-based, non-profit organization, BHI's financial goals are not driven by the need to return profits to investors. Instead, our resources are dedicated to make continuous improvements to the programs, living environments, and services we provide to our residents.

In 1990, Hoosier Village was proud to be the first retirement center in the Indianapolis area to have earned accreditation by the national CARF-CCAC (Continuing Care Accreditation Commission.) This designation, which has been renewed every 5 years, is an endorsement of Hoosier Village 's excellent fiscal responsibility, commitment to the delivery of comprehensive services and a superior quality of lifestyle.
